1st PRIZE COMPETITION
The existing state theater of Memmingen - in the heart of the historical city - is going to be reorganized. Merely the baroc stage building will be conserved. The remaining program like studio-stage, workshops, restaurant and administration are newly constructed. In addition, a commercial centre is to be built in the same quarter - all surrounded by the sensitive asset of a middleages city. The concept of the presented design is a continous motive to shape the buildings along the multifaceted plans and surfaces of the organic urban structure. The shape of the buildings is adjusted in a folded rythm coherent to the divers situations in urban space. At the same time the biparted facade picks up the scale of the historical environment.

SHORTLISTED IN A COMPETITION
Inverted continuation - The new main building connects to the existing structure with a single line. At this line old and new are literally inverted and generate space for the new entrance hall as well as for a temporary exhibition space. The permant exhibition is located in a hovering volume above. The floating cubus is equipped with a led-skin, mediating in an abstract manner the hidden content of the museum to the exterior.

The public vending industry is looking for new opportunities to place their products in public space. “The Clip” offers a minimalistic frame to integrate plenty facilties like vending and ticket machines, benches, shelter, counters and multimedia terminals. Constructed with plastic-fibre-light-concrete “The Clip” obtains an urban, robust and - after special surface treatment - elegant appearance.

A project about immigration and integration in the german capital. The initial step of this project is to investigate the emergence of ethnically diverse areas of Berlin. This leads to the definition of a Multi-Ethnic-Zone, evolving from a high density of immigrant habitants in the so called “Transitring�? of Berlin. The Multi-Ethnic-Zone (M-E-Z) is an administrative tool to generate an area that provides opportunities to the immigrant habitants to participate in neighbourhood decision making. The interface between the M-E-Z and the rest of Berlin is the German Embassy Berlin M-E-Z. It provides cultural, political, economic and educational exchange and manifests the presence of immigrant people in berlin.

CONSTRUCTION OF A GRINDING-WORKSHOP FOR THE UDK SCULPTORS STUDIO TONY CRAGG, BERLIN, GERMANY

A workshop is to be placed inside the historical, symmetrical structure of the university of the arts main building. This leads to a crystalline shaped form of the workshop. The building seems like a sculpture itself in the spatially limited yard and therefore communicates naturally with its environment. To maintain the artefact-like appearance the construction is made with a completely new kind of concrete. This plastic-fibre-light-concrete is developed in collaboration with the institute of building-engineering of the technical university berlin, headed by internationally reputed concrete expert prof. Bernd hillemeier. The high-tech concrete allows realizing the complex free shaped form as a massive construction providing full isolation and exposed concrete quality.

We wanted to offer new and unknown spots, buildings and urban spaces to the visitors of the DesignMai 2005 and to the usual Berlin tourist. Therefore we placed a Reisebüro in the heart of the city and offered thematic field trips. Such as UFO, Huts and Palaces or Fairy Places. The design for the Reisebüro should be a counter-like construction that is able to store our documents and at the same time provide urban furniture functions.

The design of this sports hotel consists of two basic parameters: the square and the mountain village. The structure of a mountain village with steep, narrow paths is abstracted within the rigid contour of a square. While the square provides a clearly defined form in the vast landscape of the alps, the abstraction of the mountain village creates a complex interior space of the hotel.

In the duett between Tosca and Scarpia the confusion of Tosca is the central theme. Fighting for the right decision she finally kills Scarpia. But before killing him she goes through the turbulences of all the aspects depending on the possible decisions she can take. The stage installation aims to transport the confusing decision process to the audience. The spectator is situated inetween the swinging columns and can’t tell where the singers are hidden. The changing lights enforce the idea of confusion.

The task in the first step was to analyze the capacities and possibilites of pre fabrication. Based on these research results we started developing marketing strategies and searching for gaps in the market of pre-fabrication. After defining parameters for new potential investors we gave answers to their demands in terms of new housing designs. These designs on the one hand serve to enlarge the potential of pre-fabrication and on the other hand offer modern living qualities to the investor.

PROJECT FOR TEMPORARY WORKING PLACES IN BARCELONA, SPAIN

The Raval of Barcelona is a socially weak district. In addition the living and working conditions are difficult because of the old building substance. The idea of the working board house is to increase the fluctuation in the district and to widen the social bandwidth. The formal attempt is to use the existing structures and to add new urban qualities to the district and the common building forms.
